Default PTO stop working

PTO stop working on HD 2145

After mower cooled down started engaging blades again

Any suggestions on what my problem is?

Sounds like when the coil windings on the PTO, when warm, is opening up. Once cooled down, they make contact again.

I am not sure, but I don't think there is an "air gap" adjustment on that type of PTO.

If there is no adjustment, it maybe new PTO time.

This is an old thread but thought I'd give it a shot. Just mowed with my 2145 w/Onan 14 hp. PTO engaged right off. Mowed about 1 hour then PTO disengaged. Pushed the PTO switch in/out multiple times then PTO engaged again for about 30 mins then disengaged. Your root cause analysis sounds like what I have. Is there any other test to confirm the coils maybe are shot? I checked the battery immediately after parking and have 12.8 volts. so I feel confident that voltage is not the issue. Also when applying 12 volts directly to PTO blue/red wires I hear the PTO "clicking". Is a new PTO very difficult to install? Anyone have a vendor reccomendation? Thanks

if im remembering correctly the PTO is simple enough to pop off ,just a QD wire connector and the unit is keywayed ,the hardest part was getting the castle nut off because it wants to bar the motor

to lock the motor up for nut removal the best way is to remove the spark plug/or plugs ,if a twin still remove both , get a piece of nylon rope close to the size of the plug port from lowes (new and clean) , rotate piston to bottom dead and feed the rope into the cylinder once it will not take any more bar the motor for the piston to start its up stroke and it will lock the motor up so you can remove the caste nut , reverse for tightening the nut , simply relieve the pressure when done and pull the rope out ,replace plugs
