Question XT1 dies instantly when engaging pto

I have an xt1 with 100 hrs on it. It cut fine last week. Now it runs fine and drives untill I go to engage the blades and it instantly wants to die.
I barely push up on the lever and it starts to die which makes me think its a safety switch somewhere. I checked the deck and cleaned out debris, everything appears to move and function fine. Blades spin freely.

I bought it used and the previous owner bypassed the reverse safety mechanism somehow. I dont have to hit the hazard button or turn the key to use reverse....not sure if its a related issue..... Maybe whatever original owner did to bypass this came undone and is causing issues?

Seat safety switch still functions fine.
If i fully engage the blades the motor dies instantly

Any ideas?

Heres a vid

Update...

Found this unplugged which I guess is what the original owner unplugged to be able to reverse without jumping through safety hoops....

While it might be the reverse safety like you mentioned. The first
thing that came to mind as I read your post was a seat safety.
I am wondering how you know that it is working fine?

I just assume its working fine because if the mower is running and i stand up it tries to stall but if I sit back down it continues to run.

You would need to look at a wiring diagram but there could be two
different switches for the seat. There would be one for the PTO as
well. If it thinks you are not in the seat the PTO will not engage and kill the engine.
I would think with your model number you should be able to find a
wiring diagram for it. Then you can trace the safeties.

For testing purposes I removed the busbar jumper from the seat switch and left the switch unplugged. This is documented bypass and worked for 100s of people with this model.
I can confirm it works. I can get off the mower while its running and it stays running. Its confirmed not to affect any of the other switches.

The reverse safety switch bypass is documented and an easy one, unplug that switch. I blew out both sides of the plug to make sure no wet grass or debris were causing continuity between connectors. This bypass is documented not to affect other safety switches.

I pulled out the pto safety switch and cleaned both connectors. Threw my meter on it and it seems to be functioning fine. When probing one set of connector blades I have NO and the other set is NC and both function when the switch button is depressed.

Its still dying as soon as the blade lever lets the pto switch open.

Only other switch there is , is the brake switch and it functions because I have to push in brake to start the mower.

I have no clue at this point ?

Im not even 100% sure if the pto switch is functioning as it should.
I just know one side had no continuity and when the plunger was pressed in that side now had continuity.

The other side of the switch had continuity while the plunger was out and when the plunger was pressed in it lost continuity.

I assumed this was correct but maybe i should go grab a new pto switch just to make sure?
Or ill try and find what I need to do to bypass the switch to test.

So i just discovered if i set the key to reverse and push in the reverse button so the red light comes on I can then engage the blades.

I dont understand because the reverse safety is unplugged

I really know nothing about reverse safeties other then they exist
on newer machines. But in reading what you have discovered, that it
is a safety switch issue. It makes me wonder if somehow the
changing of the way the reverse switch works has changed the way the
PTO switch works? I am glad you figured something out, at least you
are making progress.

Makes me wonder if the 7 pole ignition switch selector is at fault. Took it out to clean the contacts and lost one of the springs ?
Ordered a new switch, will be here mon. Yup, im desperate and throwing parts at it now lol

Good thought on the ignition switch.
Were you able to find a wiring diagram? That would at least show you
how all those switches relate to each other.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
