Spindle rebuild on 44LT 44"
My deck has the aluminum spindle housings with the two taperred roller bearings. My question is there any measurement that I need to make to get the preload on the bearings correct. Right now there appears to be a spacer that goes on the shaft that is between the inner races. Also since there is no grease fitting. Do I just pack the bearings with wheel bearing grease and put it back together?

The new bearings usually come close enough in tolerance, that no adjusting of the spacer length is needed. If you didn't know LM11949, & LM 11910 are the cup and come numbers. They were the outer front wheel bearings on a boat load of Gm vehicles before they went to front wheel drive vehicles with flange mounted bearings. Most spindle shafts are drilled for a grease fitting on the top end of the shaft. Install the top grease seal with the lip to the outside (up) so any excessive grease pumped in will purge out without pushing the seal out of the housing rendering it useless and usually damaging it, Also auto parts /Rock auto/epay will provide inexpensive bearings/cups. No need for high quality expensive bearings. IF your spindle shafts are not drilled for grease fittings, pack the housing full of wheel bearing grease. |

There is a youtube video showing how to convert a non-greasable spindle to greasable
It is quite easy You drill into the spindle body between the bearings and instal a grease nipple (zerk) Check it out Oz

Thanks guys. I thought those bearings looked familar. I'll look for that youtube video on the grease fitting.

Found the seal on Amazon. Need to look for a National Seal part number 471737. They were only $6.50 each.
