just found this site I have a 1641 that I bought last winter runs good except for a small electrical problem of not wanting to charge when the mower is engaged.

First welcome to OCC.
Next are you seeing the flickering charge indicator light while mowing? That seems to be a very common issue with the Vanguards. Make sure your running wide open when you mow, they don't make full voltage till max RPM, make sure the battery is in good condition and if you have a volt meter hook it up to the battery while your mowing to see what is actually happening. That charge light is not a reliable indicator, in fact the last Cub I worked on a LT2180 didn't even have one so my guess is Cub has done away with that setup probably because of complaints. If it starts reliably it is probably charging just fine. One other issue is Vanguard voltage regulators/ rectifiers are not the best. I've changed 3 of them this season. I converted one to a Kohler and it works much better along with being much less expensive. Post questions about your 1641 in this section. CCC/MTD Cub Cadet built Tractors (GT)

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
