Default 60 gallon upright air compressor recommendations?

Hi all.

I am looking at the Kobalt, CH from Tractor Supply and the Husky from Home Depot. Read my share of horror stories so far from poor reviews. I'd like to hear from you guys before I pull the trigger.

if your getting on that big , just make sure its a 2 stage pump.

2 stage is one cylinder is bigger then the other. if it has twin cylinders that are the same , thats not a 2 stage system.

I have the ingersoll rand TS-5 from TSC 999.00

I have one just like the CH your looking at. it works fine for small jobs and DA sanding. but it gets hot and makes a lot of water. because it runs all the time when in use.

if you were close Id sell you mine for less then half there asking price.

I have the one from Lowes, Kolbalt tools. Not that bad of a compressor. I have had it for two years and have had no problems with it. All air compressors get hot. If you are running a body shop then I would get a better compressor. If you are a veteran, at Lowes or Home Depot they will give you a 10% discount.

mine doesnt get hot. only warm when painting a car or using it all day. the cheaper ones run at a high RPM. and make a ton of heat.
but again , there nice for the shade tree mechanic and will last a lot of years . just keep an eye on the oil and change it every year or what ever the manual says.

What price range are you looking in? I got my Quincy about 2 years ago and it has been great. They have gone up in price some thou. I compared the motors on a lot of them and some are rated at 5HP but the motors looked small and the amp draw didn't pull as much as a 5 should. Here is what I have.

Thanks for the replies so far guys. I am staying in the $500 or under range. No body shop, but I need it to finish the 147, then a resto on the 882, then some light work on the 240z and eventually a Willys MB. I'd say moderate to heavy hobby use. I know the 60 gallon will be on the low end of what I need.

As far as Hp of motors, anytime you see on the motor tag Hp rating SPL (special) just understand it means "somebody prolly' lying"
Hp is hp and if say a 3 hp motor is pulling anything less than 15-16 Amps on 220V it is not 3 hp.
A 5 HP is in the vicinity of 20-21A.(on 220V.) they tend to play games with HP.rating.
Unless you are going to require high pressure like #175, a single stage will work better than a 2 stage creating less heat, and heat produces moisture, that is not good.
2 cylinders (or 3) out in the open run cooler than 2 Siamese together.
a slower running setup (rpm)has much more life than a higher rpm setup.
You ain't gonna get much for $500
The Quincy compressor oak describes is a good unit, it will last you a lifetime.
A full 5 HP motor and 50,000 hour compressor.
You might consider saving the added $$ and get something that will do the job you ask of it,
rather than a toy that you will kick yourself in the arse for buying too small a unit.
But that is just my .$02

I have a CH from tractor Supply, so far no problems. It's two years old now.

So far all I have used it for is my air tools and blowing up tires. Plan on doing some painting later this spring. TSC had a deal on it when I bought it, cost me $400.00

This is what I have and I'm working on plumping it up to a upright 60 for a total of 140 gal of air. I got the extended warranty for peace of mind. Once I'm done I'll be able to run a single tank or both with or with out oil on the lines depending on what I need to do with it. I'll have to open or close the ball valves to get the and plug the hose in 3/8 or 1/4 with or without oil. I'll have hoses just for oil and with out oil. Once I get it done I'll post pics.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
