muffler
Hello all:
I have a question about mufflers. I need a new muffler for my 149 the bottom of the muffler just fell off. I was looking at some sponsors and there are 2 types that can be used. 1 with a sound suppressor and 1 with out. I know a lot of people run stacks so do I need the $150.00 sound suppressor, or will the $40.00 one be OK to use? Also would the sound suppressor restrict air flow? |

The sound suppressor muffler was designed for the big 16 HP motors. The standard $40 muffler will work just fine.

Same thing happened to my 122 muffler. Would you be kind enough to link me to where you found the $40 muffler? I'm having a terrible time navigating the sponsors' pages.
Thanks. Matt

Both the 149 and 122 take the exact same muffler. The stack looks good with a flap on top, but all of mine run the standard muffler, except for my originals and 73 model, which have the button top muffler.

Do a search on ebay, I just did a quick search for cub cadet muffler, this one was the first listing, I did not pay a lot of attention to the exact price, but it comes in at around $30.00 shipping included!

NICE! Thanks guys. I have found a few on ebay, but none this cheap.
I realize you pay for what you get, but anything is better than the one I currently am using with the blown-out bottom.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
