Blowing Fuses
I have a model 1862 that started blowing fuses as soon as I turn the key on. Last year replaced the siloniod and PTO switch everything worked fine through the season so I have eliminated those two components as causes.
Any suggestions? |

Check your headlight circuit for a short from the ignition switch all the way to and including the bulbs.

Since the 1862 has Magneto Ignition, the Ignition (or Key Switch) is grounded. With that in mind, the possibility exists, that you may have a bad Ignition Switch, shorted internally to ground.

Also check the wires to/from the solenoid and pto switch you replaced.
Perhaps a wire had rubbed thru the insulation somewhere. When you replaced those parts, you moved the wires around enough to avoid the rubbed bare spot from shorting out again. For awhile, until now. Maybe. |

Yesterday I got the tractor running, there was a broken ground wire from the battery cable that splices into two other green ground wires. Made the repair the tractor turned over but then the PTO switch would not engage.
I turned the tractor off checked the connectors at the PTO, tried to start the tractor and it blew the fuse again. I checked all of the wires for frays, breaks anything that would remotely cause short to ground and found nothing. So when I turn the key the fuse blows at the lights on position before I even get to the ignition position. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for a Cub Cadet Model 1862? Any suggestions? |

Take a look at the wiring that goes to the head lights like Mike told you to do. I've seen more than 1 with shorted wiring to the lights.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
