Need Help
I got a Cub 109 that I rebuilt with expt. of the Trans. I just got it running, and the trans wont work. The pump turns but when I engage the lever in either forward or revers nothing happens. It is full of fluid, the fluid has never been change since I got it. I pulled the relief valves and ran the engine and saw fluid move up through the chamber. IS this a bad relief valve, plug in the system, or a bad pump? Any thoughts.

when u push the buttons down on the relief valves, do they come back up? take them out, clean them good make sure they are working and freely and reinstall them

That might be it the tops were pretty rusted, although mine didnt have the lever to disengage for manual transport. So there should be a button on top? Let me go check.

Tha' buttons
Mine were pretty corroded since the tractor was missing the tunnel cover. I squirted them with penetrating oil and let them sit a while and then tapped them with a rubber mallet. Worked fine after that.

Yea I think Im looking at new relief valves, mine sat for 10+ years with no cover. I got a little movement out of them but not what they are supposed to be.

If you take them out you may be able to tap them up into the run position with a soft nail thru the holes on the backside of the valve. The top of the part that moves should stick up from the face of the valve around 1/8 or more. When they are in the bypass position they are almost flush with the top of the valve. At least on the ones I have worked on.
If you want to make them function you will need to wire wheel the rust off the stem of the valve when you have it sticking out. A blast of PB blaster and working it up and down may get it into working condition again, altho the PB cannot be good for the seals... Somewhere on the web is a page on rebuilding the valves..involves careful welding to reassemble IIRC. .

Yea I tried that they are pretty stuck. I'm thinking of getting new ones, or slightly used ones. Question are both valves the same?

Auto valves?
auto valves? not meaning to jack the thread, but does that mean these valves automatically unload so you can roll the tractor? I have a 149 and it the center cover looks to be the holes for the release lever for the hydro, but no release lever. Thanks

Yeah, that is what the auto valves do.
Your 149 should have came with the manual ones though unless someone put a different pump in. Pull your tunnel cover off and look at the valves on top. If they are flat on top they are the auto release ones. If they have little buttons they are the manual ones. |
