Default Carb swapping

Will a carb from a 10 HP work on a 7 HP, think it would be a k241 to a k161.

I can't get fuel into my 7HP. I have tried everything. over the past 2 days and I am out of time. got more snow coming tomorrow and don't have the 1st round off the drive.

I think it will run to rich. If you have one give it a try and see what happens. It's worth a shot.It sounds to me like the 161 carb has some sort of blockage restricting fuel delivery.

ya it does, I been fighting it since I got it shipped here. something got thru the sediment bowl of the fuel shut off and I have 0 fuel getting into the bowl of the carb. took the screws and the stuff apart but crap so small I can't see anything. new carbs 260+ almost what I paid for the tractor. so....

I went back out and looked at the 10Hp carb. different style, think I will have trouble getting throttle cable, choke cable and fuel lines to line up correctly.

Can you remove the fuel inlet nipple and take a look in there and see what is blocking the fuel inlet port. I know on the 301 carbs the fuel inlet nipple threads in. Is the float set correctly. If it is set to low it will not let fuel through either. It sound like that is where the problem lies right in the float shut off area. Are you sure there is fuel making it through the sediment bowl ?

Ric,

You will need to do like the gentleman above says...take that brass fitting off the side of the carb and blow out the fitting. Then, take the carb all the way back apart, clean it well with carb cleaner, blow it out with an air hose, and reassemble. Before you put it back on, take the sediment bowl apart and clean well and replace. Also, make sure the fuel line isn't plugged and let some fuel run through the line to "flush" it. I hope this helps and good luck with it.

well the sediment bowl is where the problem was last time, so I thought it was there again, so I removed it all together and just replaced it with a regular fuel line type nipple fitting.

I had in order: tank, sediment bowl, line, inline filter, line, 90 fitting, then the carb.

I removed the sediment bowl and made sure nothing was blocking the port in the tank. new line, new filter. still nothing getting to the bowl of the carb. backed the screws out to let more fuel in, still nothing.

Got the carb off now and going to toss a $12 rebuild kit in and a can of air to back blow thru the holes. see if this works. can't see spending $360 for a carb of a $400 tractor.

Pull the float and needle out then blow compressed air through it from the needle side, that should blow anything back out the fuel inlet the way it got in.

So I take it fuel is making it to the carb via fuel line and not going into the carb. Then the blockage would be at the fuel shut off seat. Unscrew the fuel nipple on the side of the carb and see what is blocking the port.

well the local part place here had a rebuild kit, so I went and got one. canned air and carb cleaned it all up and I got it together going to go put it one the tractor. for future reference does anyone know where to get the metering screws for the air and fuel. they are not part of the rebuild kit.

when I took the seat off for the needle the float controls and blew it with air, I did catch a nice piece of tank material. I added a second inline filter till I can clean up a tank and put on it. I have a spare 7 hp fuel tank. think I get it all cleaned up and swap then out.

ok going to go put this on and see if she starts now.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
