what is the detent knob for and how does it work

Sorry I started this thread last nite and could not reply due to emergency, so I will try again. I have a 782D with a spoke looking knob to the right of the steering wheel. Best I could research is that it is a detent stop knob ( I really dont know). So my question is is that what it is and how does it work and when would you use it. Thanks again to everyone for all the info on this site I could not have got it running without it.

Is this the large knob beside your right ankle? That is for adjusting the stop for controlling implement depth (mowing height).

Anytime you start a new thread, you need to list all the information. Saves confusion.

*If* you are talking about the little white adjustable stop on the hydro quadrant, it's just a stop so you can preset speed for a certain job. It doesn't mean it will maintain that speed. It's in the owners manual under "Instruments and Controls".
