Default Picture of the Week: November 8, 2015

This weeks submission is sent to us by local member Ian Shippee aka cadzag72 from Foster, Road Island. Ian comments "I'm submitting a picture of my fleet, first is my 72 with a K301, second is my 125, and last in line is my Cub Lo-Boy 154. They all live in Foster, RI.

The 72 has been in my family since the 70's. It was given to my grandfather by my father who worked for IH at the time. The 72 had been traded in and had a blown engine, my father bought it and installed the 12 horse assembled from spare parts. My grandfather owned it until his death, when it returned to my father. We used it for mowing for several years, and when I was 10 we gave it a working restoration and I used it to mow lawns for my grandmother for several years. When I bought my first house, my father gave it to me to upkeep the land. It's now retired and awaiting a restoration.

I bought the 125 to take on the 72's duties. It has a mower deck, plow blade, a snowthrower, and a soon-to-be-installed tiller. It works hard year round, and the hydro transmission is an ideal fit for my difficult yard. I gave it a full restoration 2 years ago, after using it in original form for 1 year.

The Lo Boy was a housewarming gift from my dad, with its intention being to haul firewood out of the woods. It is restored but awaiting some important replacement parts such as a PTO and a new steering column." Thanks for the submission Ian!!!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
