Cadet model 55

I'm eying a restored model 55 that has been well cared for - carb overhaul, new paint on fiberglass. Can anyone share what they know about the 55 before I jump in? It's a manual start, white body (Cub IH) and a new 8HP engine, where I'm guessing the original engine was a 5.5. Uncertain what parts would be like to replace on this too. Also curious if this was a 1960's machine. Any comments are much appreciated!

The Model 55 was produced from 1972 through 1978. It and its siblings, the Model 75 & Model 85, were basically the same machines, just the 55 was price pointed lower because of the smaller (less expensive) engine. If your RER has an 8hp engine upgrade, then basically you have a Model 85.

If you post the serial number, then we can ID the year of manufacture for you. The Serial Number plate will be found on the engine deck at the left rear of the RER.

The IH TC-120 is the Parts manual for the RER mowers. IH GSS-1417 is the Service Manual for the RER's. IH Publication 1 084 448 R2 is the Operator's Manual. I recommend having all three. Thanks for the fast reply and info. That model 55 was sure pretty, but I went another way and went with a 1996 Cub Cadet 1030 with 10.5 commericial B&S engine. It has had one owner only and seems well cared for. I also liked some of the more recent "amenities"; electric start!

I've got another 1996 Cub, a 2165, and now have a matching family. I've already starting wearing blue and tan more :}

I have a 1972 ih cadet the parts are really hard to find i have found a couple sites. I am trying to find a bagger system for it but that only came on the 85 bagger special.

I never even knew IH bothered with anything smaller than a GT. Now it makes me wonder if they ever did a pushmower. Mack trucks did a pushmower (it was really a repainted Ariens. Nice unit) a couple years ago.

IH built it all. Literally! They made push mowers, weed eaters (string trimers), front tine tillers, Ive seen at least one electric drill they made, tools, had refineries for making various fluids that was machine specific, our Cubs, tractors, and equipment of course, air conditions, refridgerators, freezers, cream seperators, light and heavy duty trucks, guns during the Korean war (possible WWII as well), anything with the famous "man on a tractor" logo was built by them and all was made here in the

with the exceptions of their many factories across the globe!!

I knew about the tractors and some of the refrigeration units, but not drills and tools and guns! That's pretty interesting.

Makes me want to hoard the stuff as most of it is 100%

made. It's really hard to find stuff anymore, but at least the internet is good at helping me locate American made products (jeans, coats, shoes, etc.)

Haha yea im a big fan of anything IH, and trust me i want it all too

. And thats not even half of what they built! But yes back to the sweet looking 55! Got any pics of it?
