Who's the Super Wrench??
Someone tell me the secret to getting the collar off the crankshaft on a 10 horse Kohler so I can get to the clamshell and the pulley. Big hammers and pullers and driving boards under the pulley have not helped. Is it the key way that's holding the collar on. I believe I've got all the set screws out. Do they all take 1/8th in. allen wrenches? I know your chrystal balls get kind of foggy this time of the night. I just need some ideas to try. I got the pto off easily with a slide hammer and a puller mechanism. It was rusted and siezed pretty good, so I'd imagine the collar is too. Trouble is the only place you can get anything under is under the pulley and its flimsy enough to wad up with very much force. I've had it soaking in diesel for awhile. Any ideas fellas??

Did you take out 6 set screws?

Collar on bearing is concentric and pinches the bearing and itself tight onto crankshaft. You need to turn the collar a little bit while hold the crank steady. I "THINK" you need to turn the collar opposite direction the motor runs though I would appreciate somebody here verify this for me!
When all else fail, grind the bearing off..... careful of the crankshaft.

I've got the pto and bearing off. All I have left is the small collar thats holding the clamshell and the pulley. Would a good douche with Blaster help get the key way out?

The collar is part of the pulley. They tend to rust onto the crank and can be a bear to remove. I’ve seen pullers made to remove them.

If all the set screws are out and pto off, You can put a little heat on the collar and it should slide right off

I do appreciate all the help. I think I'll try heating and beating for awhile and then talk to Jeff. His pulley puller is certainly priced right although I'm afraid of what the freight would be on that. Again thanks to all. Carpetbagger

I had one stuck on tried everything had to cut it off crankshaft was nicked up would not slide off

I have had success with heat and beat, sometimes it takes a couple heat and cool cycles to loosen up. And make sure the crank is clean where it's going to slide over.
