Hydro Leak
I noticed a small leak under my 782 over the weekend. I can see where it's coming from (see picture below). It seems to be from where this line enters/exits the transmission housing. I tried tightening that nut, but it was tight. Is there a seal or o-ring for that nut? Or would I have to replace the entire line? I originally thought it might be coming from higher up, like from the filter, but it's dry up above there, so I think it's that nut. Sorry the pic is upside down!

There is a brass 5/8 compression ferrule that seals the tube at the bottom I would also look at the cork gasket between the pump and axle it could be leaking and running down to that area and making it look like the tube is leaking. Hope this helps. Wally

Look on top of your relief valves, one of them could be leaking. Mine were and they would only leak when you started it up or shut it off.

Sorry it's taken so long to get back to this project. No mowing to be done in Western PA, so I looked a little more into this problem. I checked the relief valves. All is clean and dry up there. When I got under the tractor it seems as though the leak is coming from just below the filter. Not from the filter, mind you. Just below it. Everything around the filter gasket is dry, but just below the filter and back a bit is where the wetness is. And then it seems to be running down and dripping off of the bottom of the hydro case. I don't have a huge leak, but I'd like to take care of it, if I can. Any thoughts on wheat might be leaking in that area? Thanks for any help, as always.

Did you check the cork gasket between the pump and the rear?

Havent looked into that yet. I will have to check the Internet for a parts diagram to see where it is. Is that something that I'd have to completely remove the rear end to fix, or can I fix it whilst on the tractor?

You can get to it while on the tractor, but you will need to drain a little fluid out first. Let me also say that it won't be the most convenient to get to, but removing the battery box, fenders, and tunnel cover will really open it up. Nice to see someone from close by, I'm just down the road in Washington.
Best of luck! Nate

It is far easier to remove the rearend to fix it than leave it in there. Then you can do a better job of cleaning everything so you have less of a chance to get a bunch of dirt in the rearend when you remove the hydro pump.

I tore into it a bit this past Sunday. I power washed and degreased as much as I could to help see where the leak would come from after I ran it again. I think it is that gasket that is leaking. I guess I'll just wait until the winter to tackle this project. It's a small, slow leak, so I'll just keep an eye on the level for the rest of this season and nurse it through. Thanks for the help. Maybe I'll call you up when I'm ready Nate!

Give me a shout - i recenlty made a gasket for mine (which was leaking) and it sealed up really nicely. I thought something was wrong because it WASN'T leaking - didn't seem normal.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
