Remove the rear wheels, brake calipers, pull the rear cover, remove the c clips on the axles and pull the axles. Remove the seals and replace then replace the parts in the reverse order. Put a new gasket on the cover and reinstall. Refill the trans with Hy-Tran. Let the good times roll.

Opp's I thought he was talking about just the seals at the end of the tubes. If you need to replace the gaskets between the tubes and the trans then you will have to remove the whole rear end. Unhook the drive shaft, the shift linkage, unbolt the trans from the frame and roll it out from under the tractor. I'd pull the seat pan and fuel tank. Pretty much take the complete rear of the tractor apart. Fun job. NOT. If your in that far I'd also change the gasket between the pump and the rear. Not a question of if it leak but when will it leak. If you don't it will probably leak soon after you put it all back together.

Same here, my 2182 has dribbles between the pump and the trans. Gotta pull it and fix it one of these days.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
