Puller Problems
I am a new puller here in WI and I am running a stock 102. The motor that was originally in it knocked and smoked. This year I finally rounded up the money to fix it and put in a new to me K241 I tore the motor down to bare block and replaced anything that needed to be fixed. A couple weeks ago I test fired her for the first time and it was backfiring through the carb and was running a little hot so I shut it down and felt around the motor and it felt like I had been running it for sometime but I had only ran it for 10 minuets or so. So Im wondering what you guys think is causing these things to happen.

recheck your valve lash and timing. are you positive that you got the cam and crank timing marks installed correctly? did you ever adjust the carb?

the timing should be correct. The carb was off the motor that the tractor came with. It was clean and had a new kit in it.

I checked the timing it is correct. I gauged the valves and they are now in spec. I am putting the motor back together tonight. Is there anything I need to check before putting the motor in the tractor?

Not really just clean everything off with brakeclean. And use oil or engine assembly lube when putting it together. Idk if you bought a new gasket kit but I just use high temp rtv. And once its in. Your motor may not want the adjust ment as mine. But the top screw on my carb is turned 3turns out from all the way in. And my side screw is out 2 1/4 turns from all the in.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
