OK OK.... Alright Gary maybe I was a bit misleading, but well that happens... LOL. Long story short, my wife says she saw a cub about a 1/4 mile down the road and it had a for sale sign on it. I drive by and see it is a narrow frame but couldn't see the model number. I thought, hey my nephew needs a good Cub to do chores around his house with. So I called his dad and told him to check it out and that I would do the restore. He calls and wants to know what it is worth if it turns over, I said $150 at most, figuring the guy wants more. Ten minutes later he calls back and say I got it and another small Homelite riding mower for $50. I told him he did great. So he picked it up this afternoon and brought it over to the house to leave here, so I can work on it this winter. Disassemble and motor overhaul. It is a 1971 model 73.

As you all will see, it has some of those awesome PO mods, LOL. Luckily nothing that cannot be removed I think. I do need to see what a battery box for this thing looks like. Also I need to know if the rounded rear fenders are the same as an O or is there a difference? xtrememotorworks makes a nice seat pan fender and fenders for the O. If they fit we will get some to mount up. The plan is to fix all the issues with it, paint it, put duals on the rear and tri ribs on the front, lights and rear lift for a plow. The steering wheel is very loose at the spokes. Will tack welding work or do I need to look for another steering wheel?

The deck isn't too bad, but my nephew pulls one of those big pull behind mowers and that is what this 73 will mainly be used for. Oh he is 10 and plans on helping me with the work on "His" tractor.

OK that is enough from me. On to the pics.

There is the original seat pan under this bolted on Crapsman seat.

Of course the Big Red Smoker had the duties of hauling everything around

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
