1440 constant PTO belt failure
Hello forum,
I gotta say this is the first Cub Cadet I have owned, and I like it but it's been driving me crazy finding the right parts for it at times. I am not very familiar with Cub Cadets, a lot more difficult than my craftsman mower! OK, the problem I have been having is it loves to chunk out the PTO belt that goes to the mower deck. I have changed this belt every season so far, because of chunks coming out of it, and it's getting expensive and frustrating. I have been buying OEM belts at my local Cub Cadet dealer. I checked under the mower with the belt at rest and running but see nothing that it might be rubbing on. It has a brand new PTO and drive pulley on the deck. I'm looking for any members that might have some advise or comments about the problem with the belt chunking out. My tractor is a Cub Cadet 1440 Model 143-633-100 Serial 844145 Model 42" gt deck 320109 Serial 419093 Thank you, GENE |

First, welcome to OCC...............
Let's start with the basics. Check ALL your pulleys that the belts revolves around, for being bent, cracked, or dry bearings. All pulleys should spin freely with no resistance or defects. Is the belt in proper alignment ? Make sure that the deck, in the mowing position, that the belt follows true. Check you mower deck blade spindles to see if the spin free with no resistance. Check that out and report back.

Post some pics of your deck and mule drive looking at the tractor and deck from the front. I want to see how you have the belt routed.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
