782 w/ KT-17 only two foward motor mounts?
Silly question, I know. But I wasn't going to lay under the CC in the sloppy field it is in. We've been getting rain.
Anywho, may have to take the starter out and I here some folks have loosened the hardware on the motor mounts to give them enough room to get to the Starter Hardware. In the past I have n only see two mounts and they are way up forward. What supports the back end?

There are 4 bolts holding the motor on the plate and 4 spacers are required.
6 bolts remove the plate from the frame.

Had time to look around. Two rear 'Engine to Bracket' bolts are missing. Only two up front and all 6 from bracket to frame. I guess I will unbolt the Bracket from Frame. lift up to hopefully get the Starter replaced then see what I need to get the back two bolts installed proper. I will try to look up the Spacers in case they are not squeezed in there. What are they? Rubber grommets with steel washers on both sides?

Here is a Screen Capture from the Parts Manual for the engine Mounting Plate assembly. The spacers are solid steel.

When yall get done dinkin around, skinnin'yer knuckles, and blooding yerself, then pull the motor with the mounting plate attached.
After disconnecting the drive shaft and a few other things in the way you can attend to the missing spacers, and bolts on the mounting and fix/replace the starter and missing bolts/nuts on the tins and blowing out the chit in the fins and stator. Why in the world do you want to do this half a$$ed and more difficult is beyond me. Do it right once, and don't look back. |

Thanks Bedell, I had that image from the CC Parts website. I was thinking there was some soft mount between this Base plate and the engines 'foot'. Now I know there is not.
Zippy, are you saying the Motor should just be Tapped holes in the feet? My front two that are held down are down with Nuts and Bolts. I slid a 5/16 bolt up into the rear mounting holes and they went clear thru. If they are Tapped, well, they aren't anymore. This 782 must have had many hands in it before I got it. So between the abusive mechanics and me not knowing what things are supposed to look like.. It makes it tough. Hence the reason I keep asking elementary questions Thanks everyone.

The engine is fixed to the plate by four 3/8"-16 x 1.5" hex cap screw grade 5, .469" x 3/8" dia spacers, and four 3/8" hex flange nuts. The spacer goes between the engine base and the plate. Those spacer punch in the plate of my 1872/2072 so I made larger one similar to Jeff solid mount for quiet line and to fix my engine to the plate I use two flat washer on the sliding part of the plate (Flywheel side) and 2 lock washer on the PTO side, this help me sleep better. Warning: Those explanation have been provided by none native English species, please be gentle.

The engine is attached to the plate with 4 bolts and nuts.
The spacers are between the engine and plate as mentioned. The plate is attached to the frame with 6 bolts that are threaded into the mounting plate, and the plate has nuts welded to it for the bolts. Take the engine out with the plate attached and reinstall it back in with the plate attached, you will have to slide it fore/aft a little in the frame to get it in and out. |
