23HP Kohler Command comparable to 20HP Kohler Magnum?
I was wondering if the Kohler Command 23HP would be comparable in power to the Kohler Magnum 20. I have a 2072 Cub with a 60" Haban deck and a 2084 with a 60" Haban deck and the 2072 goes through the grass that is thick and tall with ease, but it seems like my 2084 (currently with a Kohler Command 20HP) doesn't have the same power to get through similar types of tall, thick patches of lawn. It goes through it, but I have to slow it down, and the engine does seem to work harder than the 20HP Magnum in the 2072. Both tractors are in good mechanical condition with not that many hours on the meter.
So, I have a brand new 23HP Kohler Command that I am putting in my 2084 and I was just wondering if I now will be able to expect similar performance when running 60" decks with the Kohler Command 23HP and the Kohler 20HP Magnum in my 2072. Thanks! |

Traditionally,
The opposed twin engines (M/KT)series experience more torque than the "V" design engines of the same HP. So theoretically they should be about the same being the "V" engine has more rated h.p. Let us know how it plans out in reality. It should be noted most say the "V"twin engines are a little more conservative on fuel than the flathead opposed twins. |

Thank you. I agree, those Kohler Magnums like to drink fuel, but they have lots of torque. The over head valve configuration of the Kohler Command makes for a more fuel efficient engine. I was hoping the Command 23HP would be on par with the 20HP Magnum. It'll probably be at least another month until I get mowing again unfortunately......this cold weather and snow is not pleasant!
On a side note, I got a nice low hour 2182 last Fall with a 60" Haban deck and I'll be giving that to my dad. We'll report back to you guys and compare how the Magnum/Command/WG600 Kubota all stack up against one another. |

Pour the coal to that v-twin. Parts are out there if they fubar, the others not so much. Mike

Yes, I agree. That's why I'm sticking with the 23HP V-twin as my primary mower and using the 2072 with the Kohler Magnum as my back up unit.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
