Hello - First visit with more to follow from NH
Just dropped in to find the gap specs to replace the points on my 1450. What a great site! I have owned my Cub for 10 years, and never really had to do too much to it, which is amazing considering it was already 25 years old when I bought it. Now I am looking to "fix" it up as it has treated me so well, and this looks like the place to get all of the info.
I bought the cub because my father in law is an IH guy all his life. He grew up as a potato farmer in Northern ME, and swears by IH. In fact he has several, and brings them to shows, and pulls. So, when my wife and I bought our house 10 years ago, I knew I needed a tractor, and it had to be a cub. The 1450 was the perfect choice. I got it with the mower deck, and a mammoth snow blower attachment. In fact my father in law states he has never seen this attachment before. The fram on the blower goes all the way to the back of the tractor and pins back there as a class 3 hitch. I have PTO on the front, and hydrolic lift. I sanded and replainted the blower this past winter, and look forward to getting many more years out of it. Well, that's my story for now. Thanks for putting this site together and maintaining all of this data. |

Welcome To OCC.net.
I have a 1250 and really like it. The QL series are great to have. You may want to download this PDF file from Matt's site. It shows you how to correctly set the points gap using static timing. Very easy and worth the short amount of time it takes to do it. The suggested setting just gets them close but normally not dead on. This procedure does get it dead on. Would love to see some pics of your set up and that snowblower. Link: http://mgonitzke.net16.net/tools/static_timing.pdf

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
