Kohler M18 Carburetor
Has anyone had a good or bad experience with replacement carburetors? I am looking online and have a hard time believing that any carb under $50 can be good.

I've used one of them on my 1989 1050 with the Kohler Magnum 10. The original carb was a Walbro fixed jet. It had wear on the main throttle shaft, so the engine would have a lean misfire at high speed. The new fully adjustable carb completely fixed the misfire, and does the job quite well.

Thanks for the feedback. Any specific brand/distributor?

Personally, I would stay away from the cheap Chinese knock offs. I would tend to buy a Kohler Adjustable Carb, followed by a Walbro Adjustable Carb.

I picked up a 1711 with a destroyed carb and purchased one of those pos $16 carbs off of Ebay. It actually ran great but I sold it soon after so I don't know how long they hold up.

I think I had to remove the old choke shaft and plate and install in the new carb. Unless you wanna spend probably $100+ on a used one go for the Chinese special for $20. Can’t even get a 30 pack of Bush Light for that.

I purchased mine from Amazon for under $30. I did have to replace the choke shaft from the original carb, but other than that, plug and play, and obviously adjust the idle speed and both high speed and idle mixture.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
