Default 1320 PTO Belt Doesn't Disengage

I picked up a 1320 Hydro for $200. Starts, runs great, looks awesome. When I disengage the PTO, the belt still drives the deck so the blades keep spinning. I bought this from my brother in law who bought it that way. He went to the dealer and bought a new belt to be sure (754-3038). He gave up on it after a while and bought a new tractor. From what I can tell by almost all references online, the belt is the right size, but it is easy to argue it isn't just by looking at it when installed. It looks like it just isn't long enough. When things are lined up such as pulleys and what not, it doesn't take much for a belt with minimnal slack to keep driving something. There just doesn't seem to be enough throw to let out enough slack in the PTO belt. Anyone got ideas, things to check for alignment, improperly mounted arms, rods, etc?

First things first. Now onto your problem. Only thing I could think of is if the belt is mounted wrong, going the wrong way on the tensioner is all I can think of. Maybe way off, but worth a look, sorry, not much help.

I had the same issue on my 1320 that I picked up. I ended up picking up a belt that was 1/2" and 1" longer. I can't remember which one I ended up keeping on it, I think it was the 1" one. Also check to be sure that the pulleys are the correct ones, I found the drive pulley on the deck was the wrong size and didn't allow the belt to fully go into the pulley. Good luck

I just got done servicing a lady's 1320 a few weeks ago. When I put on a new deck belt the blades would always keep turning when the belt was disengaged. What I found was a brake puck mounted on a bracket that was suppose to hold tension on the deck drive pulley when disengaged. The puck was worn past adjustment so I ended up fabricating a new one and installing it. Problem solved.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
