Default Engine stalls at start up

Kohler SV541 18 hp engine stalls at start up. My 3 year old lawn tractor starts right up but stalls when I take my foot off the clutch unless I keep the clutch engaged for several minutes. After those several minutes I can release the clutch and the engine runs perfectly. This happened all last season too. Weather doesn’t matter either, cool spring or hot summer the engine stalls at start up. I’m starting the fourth season cutting a half acre lot with this tractor and there are only 32 hours on the meter. The air filter and pre-cleaner is new and the oil has been changed. I use gas stabilizer for winter storage. Is this a quirk of the engine or what? Any suggestions?

sounds like it's running lean . try keeping the choke on about 1/2 way while you let the pedal up engaging the belt and see what it does.

Sounds like warranty work to me if it has been doing it for 2 of 3 years ownership.
possibly it is a fool injection model and no carb to choke.
Says keeps the clutch engaged with his foot on it???
that would be disengaged in my mind.
it's way too early to get out my make/model crystal ball.
I'd suggest talk to your friendly cub cadet dealer as they would know what they sold you, if you don't know.

Yeah.. I mean, You should be warming engine up before putting it to work anyway. Just makes sense to do so with small engines.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
