Default small..small update

Well, I got the engine pulled off today. Havent really been able to work on her much with so much going on. Got a guy to look at it for me free of charge! But will pay him a little for motivation and appreciation. Oh boy...hope when finished I can remember how to put it back together. lol Im not as skillful as all of you here. Did a pressure check before pulling it off and got 45. Definate ring replacement Im guessing.

Cheers,
Nathan

Hey no problem. Its a bit daunting...wish I could get it all restored lickity split. But reality is I probably won't have it finished before the mowing season ends.

Right, that 45 psi compression check didn't really tell you anything about the engine. It's designed so that the exhaust valve opens slightly to decrease compression and make it easier to turn over for starting. After the engine is running, the compression release feature drops off. I think it's around 2,000 rpm that you'd have to get to before you could really check the compression, and that's not practical.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
