Default Scored a sickle bar mower

I thought I would post some pictures of the 46 inch sickle bar mower I recently bought from a friend. He said he had used on his 1450 and thought it was for a White. I tried finding info on it and had no luck. Today he brought the operators manual and it shows a Simplicity GT on the cover, it is a model number 1690030 and fits many of their garden tractors. He said he attached it to his mule drive and lifted it with a chain. It shows a cable lift in the manual along with a pulley. I think I can fab a bracket to use the cable lift on my 782 beater I bought cheap and am fixing up just to run this mower. The spacing on the mount looks like it will bolt right up to my mule drive. This weekend I will see what it takes to set it up. I have been looking for a Haban for some time now and if you find one they want an arm and a leg for it. I am ashamed to say what I paid for it. Here are some pictures. It looks to be of a heavier construction than the Haban my brother has. Now I will be able to mow my road ditches that the township only does trice a year if I am lucky.

I thought it was a good deal. When I get the 782 that I am going to put it on back together I will post some pictures of how I adapt it to a cub cadet. I have a spare two valve hydraulic control and a lift cylinder and I think I will add a cylinder to it to raise the cutter bar for transport or to angle it to cut ditch banks. I am going to see if I can get started on it tomorrow.

Default Finally got it finished

Well it seemed like it took forever but I finally finished installing my Simplicity sickle bar on my beater 782. Seems like every time I tried to work on it some thing else more important came up. I had a chance to use it last week and it works very well. It is much smoother running than the Haban my brother has on a his 70. The only changes I need to make are adding chains to my rear tires, and two wheel weights to the left side of the tractor to help counterbalance it on the ditch banks. Here are some pictures of it. If I evar get any spare time I would like to paint the tractor and mower, but for now it will work just fine. If anybody is interested I have a total of about $600.00 in both the 782 and the sickle bar. Enjoy
Tom

Adapted to mower lift frame, and installed jackshaft pulleys to allow for belt alignment. This still uses the standard mule drive as a regular mower deck.

Rear mount. By removing one bolt, the lift cable and detaching belt and mule drive the sickle bar can be removed in less than five minutes. Not much harder than a regular mower deck. Only issue is you have to raise front of the tractor to slide it out.

Thanks guys. I am pleased with how it came out. I did not want to modify the sickle bar to the point that it could not be put back on a Simplicity, Not that I will ever own one but If I decide to sell it they bring big money on our favorite auction site.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
