Default Kohler k321 with k361 rebuild kit

I have a 149 and the motor is starting to get tired and I was thinking about rebuilding it. I was wondering if I got a rebuild kit for a k341 wich is 16hp and came out of a 169. Would it work and would I have 16hp or not? Has any body done this??

Well, the biggest difference between the 2 rebuild kits is the diameter of the piston and the piston rings. So if you bored out your K321 (3.500" bore) out to 3.750", then yes, technically you would have a 16 hp engine. However I don't think you will have enough cylinder wall thickness left over to make it viable. I believe the only difference between the 149 and a 169 is the engine.

Thanks. I looked up the specs after I posted that and it's only the bore that's diffrent. I'll have to do some measuring to see how much wall thickness I'd have.

The K321 has 9 head bolts and the K361 has 10 head bolts. You will need a head gasket if you do this.

I agree with Green407.....You may leave the cylinder wall too thin and trash a block. The casting is different.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
