An R Bedell Type Question??
OK, I am lost. I tried to start an 18HP Kohler Magnum. It would not start, no spark at the plugs.
There are 2 wires that come out of the engine to a double connector. When I disconnect the double connector plug, the engine will start. When I reconnect the plug the engine will shut off. When I use an ohm meter, the tractor side of the connector does not show continuity to ground. What am I missing?? What is stopping the engine if the wire does not show continuity to ground? I even reversed the ohm meter leads in case there was a diode in the circuit. Is the magnum supposed to shut off by grounding that terminal? I even disconnected the battery, the engine continues to run fine. Connect the connector, it stops. BUT, no continuity to ground. HELP! |

It is for an 1861,
the more I think about it, I must have been using an ungrounded spot to check for continuity to the tractor side of the plug. The engine is currently in a Ariens GT-18. it appears to be a drop in for the 1861. The Ariens is of the vintage of powder coat paint. Ariens feared lack of ground so much, they brought EVERY ground requirement back to one point. Even the battery ground is on this bolt that connects every ground together. I saw that ground connecting bolt after the post, and have not had a chance th recheck continuity. |

Ground measurements should be done at the Battery Negative terminal. There is NO diode in a 1861 Wiring Diagram.
This should help. The Violet ----> Red/Wht wire is the Charging Circuit Power The Black ----> Black is the Oil Light Circuit The White ----> Yellow is the Kill Circuit to shut the engine down

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
