Default 1862 oil sensor

My new to me 1862 has the oil light staying on. It does not flicker. Have been using tractor and every thing sounds OK. Have changed the oil and filter and oil level staying on full. Does this mean the oil sensor is bad? Will I lose any oil out the sensor hole if I change the sensor? Thanks in advance for your help and have a great day.

Possibly. The Oil Pressure Sensor is designed to come on with a pressure of less than 3.5 PSIG. With 3.6 and above, the light should go out. The circuit is designed to close the Pressure Switch, completing a path to ground. Thus, the possibility exists, that this wire (Green ???) could be shorted to ground. A meter (DVM) could determine this.

NO

Not knowing anything about a 1862 , I can tell you that the oil light stays on for 5 running hours each time the oil is required to be changed in my Kohler V-twin 22hp
I posted a thread on here about this , it is programmed in to the meter , I am not saying this applies to your mower but check it out
Here is the thread

Your 1862 should have a Kohler Mag 18 engine. I would not run this until you find the issue or you will destroy the engine. If the wiring checks out good, I would check the oil pressure with a gauge to see what pressure you are running at.

My 1806 (M18) did the same thing and replacing the sensor fixed it.

You can try a mechanical gauge that you know is good

Yes, or swap with another sensor. NAPA normally stocks them. I replaced a plug (from someone else's swap) with the proper sensor and restored the light function on my 1440.

Default 1862 Oil Sensor

Can you remove the oil sensor by going through the grill housing after removing the grill? Looks like it would be difficult to get the replacement restarted in the threaded hole. Thanks and have a great day.

Probably, but it's much easier to remove the wingnut, washer, and LHS panel.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
