Cub Cadet 1330 Carburetor HELP!
Hi everyone - first post here. Have done a ton of research and finally electing to put my question into the wind hoping for an answer. The carburetor on my 1330, Command 12.5 (mid 90's model) is shot. It came with a Walbro 12-053-10. It's a discontinued carb that I can not find new or used. Local tractor supply in town recommends the Kohler Carb (12-853-140-S) as the replacement. Runs from $100-$120 on ebay and various online retailer.
My question is if anyone has had success with this Kohler carb or another carb that syncs up with the Command 12.5. I'd really like to be as confident as possible before buying. Also - i've read that paper fuel filters arent' great for these engines and should go with screen. correct? Thanks so much! |

The 1330 rolled out of the Factory with a Kohler CV12.5-1211 Engine.
The Cub Cadet parts manual lists the OEM Carb as KH-12-853-01. That supersedes to KH-12-853-140-S. The Kohler Parts Site states that the OEM Carb was KH-12-853-01... but is replaced by KH-12-853-57......>>> KH-12-853-139-S If this were me, I would go with the information from Kohler. After all, they made the engine.

KH means Kohler, BS= Briggs & Stratton, KB = Kubota ETC. What I do is to remove the prefix then do a Goggle search, example, "Kohler 12-853-139-S"
and see what comes up.

Mesh. Paper won't gravity feed well. Believe me. I worked at a Case IH dealer who also sold Cub Cadet. In the early 2000's, I worked on one that the customer stated would die. I literally mowed for days with it around the dealership trying to get it to quit. As it turned out, the customer never said it would only do it when low on fuel. I kept the tank reletively full..... it was the paper element filter. Hate to know what they charged that guy.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
