Default Potential GT2186 purchase
I ran across this GT2186 with just over 500 hours for sale. I know it was made in 2004 as I believe that was the only year for this model. 48 inch deck and the seller has another deck as well. Any advice on this model?

BTW, it's been awhile since I have been on this site. I have been messing with bigger tractors, Farmall Cubs, Ford N series tractors, etc.

They make excellent engine donors for the 82 series Cubs. Nothing else too special about them in my opinion. Not a bad mower if all you need is to cut grass and not too much.

It would only serve as a backup mower and maybe to pull a small lawn trailer. I have plenty of other, bigger tractors to do other chores, blading, scooping, plowing, brush hogging, etc.

Series 2000 were a good mid range of mowers , light to medium duty
The 2185 had a Kohler 2 cylinder , that one has an Onan is that correct ?
I bought a 2155 in 1998 and a mate now has it and still going strong , the only weak point I ever discovered was the seat mounting points needed a bit of reinforcing as the contact area was tiny and the bouncing up and down started to fracture the metal of the rear panel

It has the same engine except for a limiting screw in the carb on the the 18hp. I think it has to have a governor adjustment to get the 20hp.

I had a Cub Cadet 2206 with an electric lift sleeve hitch and a 30-inch hydraulic tiller. It was a great tractor for 16 years and replaced it with an XT3 GSX because my wife wanted power steering The 2206 and the 2186 are basically the same as the Cub Cadet 2518 except they have an aluminum transmission out case instead of cast Iron but the same Transmission internal components

My XT3 GSX, besides mowing, does a nice job with Sleeve Hitch Implements(Johnny Products Lift Upgrade on OEM Sleeve Hitch), a 30-inch Bercomac belt-driven PTO tiller, and it works great with a Johnny Bucket and Johnny Plow. So it can do a lot more than mow the lawn.

I also ran across a 2500 series Cub Cadet with under 400 hours. 44 inch deck, 18 hp Kohler. I'm assuming it's pretty similar to a 2186, maybe a bit older.

The 2500 series started about 2 years after the 2186 came out, and the 1st 2500 series model was the 2518, which came out in 2002. The same year, I bought a Cub 2206 for my wife
BTW T-Mo what do you need a back up for? You and I are already the same we have back-ups for back-ups
