K301 smoker
When I picked up the 1210, it blew smoke on start up, and picking up revs from an idle. Then didn't seem bad. I had hoped it was plugged vent, or maybe carbon build up on rings that would clear.
The vent was plugged, big time, with RTV. And assembled wrong with pieces missing. Thought I was in luck. Now it burns oil much worse, and blows from the vent as well. goes through as much oil as gas. So IMO, I'm looking at teardown, new piston and rings, probably bore OS. What bugs me is this thing fires up fast, runs smooth, and seems to have tons of power. Sure doesn't seem like a compression loss. Have I missed something??

I didn't mention, if you take oil dipstick out, it blows/throws little droplets of oil out the fill pipe.

Do a leak down test or at least hook up some compressed air to the spark plug hole. If it blows out the dip stick tube or crank case vent it's rings time. You will need to get the piston at TDC and come up with a way to keep the crank from turning when you do this. If it blows out the intake or exhaust then you have a valve issue.

I use something like this
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/an...7/media/images I screw the adapter into the spark plug hole and then just connect my shop air to the quick disconnect. The tester Oak listed would work better.

i had a k241 that was the same way, tons of power, but smoked like crazy, ended up tearing it down cuz i got a new engine, well turned out it had a broken oil ring, we put a new set of rings in with a mild hone job and it runs great with no smoke

Thanks guys. I already have a tool made up to apply compressed air to cylinder.
No gauges but could easily add one if needed. For my purposes don't think I need a gauge. It should be readily apparent.

That would be dandy!!! I'm hoping. Just doesn't make sense it runs great, lots of umph. Just doesn't seem like a worn out engine. Maybe.
As I've said before, I think the engine has been apart, and if it's anything like the rest or the tractor, it isn't back together properly.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
