IH 100 - New Clutch - Drive Shaft Never Stops Spinning
I just rebuilt my clutch on my 100, New Disc, Throwout Bearing, Teaser Spring, Clutch Pressure Spring, Drive Shaft. I got everything back together and now no matter how I adjust the pedal the drive shaft never stops spinning. If I press the pedal, the plates separate and it looks like the clutch is disengaged but the shaft never stops to allow putting the tractor in gear. I have adjusted the clutch adjustment way more than I ever have on any of my tractors before.
Any thoughts? I am open for suggestions of what to look for. |

Something is out of alignment.
Did you replace the bushing in the 3 pin driver? That would be the first place to start looking |

I did replace the bushing also.

With the engine off, the transmission in neutral and the clutch disengaged, can you easily spin the driveshaft by hand? If not, the driveshaft is likely dragging in the bushing in the clutch drive plate at the back of the engine. Loosen the engine mounting bolts and shift the engine until the driveshaft spins freely and tighten the engine bolts. I’ve had to do that on my 100 after installing the engine.

The shaft still spins when clutch is disengaged and I turn the engine over. No time tonight to loosen the engine but will try after work tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion.

OK - Finally got a chance to loosen the engine and spin the engine over. After no real change I pulled the engine and looked at the bushing. There was a burr on the surface of the bushing. I took a small piece of 600 grit sand paper to it, just enough to clean up the burr. Put everything back together and I am back in business. Thanks everyone for the suggestions, they got me to the issue after a hitting a brick wall. I really did not think about the alignment or bushing since it was brand new and I had never had an alignment problem in all my other clutch rebuilds. Only Cub Cadets to the rescue again.
