782 trans, no neutral movement

Hi guys,

I have a 782 w/m18. Currently waiting on delv. of two rebuilt valves.
Why are the tires not able to turn? Is their an issue with the tranny?
Also, the pump makes a lot of noise going from neutral to a forward motion. I don't suspect that will change with new valves.

Any info or guidance will be greatly appriciated.

if you have a bad valve it wouldn't move. that should have the auto bleed of ones with out the button on top. but its unussual that both fail since one is for f and one for r. if they have been leaking bad or if theres a bad leak you'll want to check the fluid level. also if it don't have the correct filter it could be plugged and not bypassing. and last but not least it could have a bad pump. start with the simple stuff and work your way to the major stuff.

If you have no knowledge of how old the tranny fluid and filter are, I would advise draining the fluid and cleaning out with some brake cleaner, then refill with Hytran. Will take 2 gallons of fluid to fill it. Using one of the valve holes to fill the case would be good since you are changing those out. Also replace the tranny filter with a good hydraulic fluid filter, not an oil filter. The recommended filters and numbers are listed in our Tractor Technical Library.

If the brake pedal is locked down,
it will not move without sliding the tires.

Thanks for the responses guys,

One valve was bad, I did the swap technique to verify. One of them had the top hole plugged??? So I sent them both out for re-build.
So that I'm clear, if both valves are currently removed, should the rear axle be able to turn freely?
If not I believe I might be looking at disassemly of the tranny?
Just prior to one of the valves going out, I did replace the filter and topped off the fluid, it looked and smelled fine.

They don't turn "freely" there is resistance. If it were me, when the rebuilt valves come back, and installed, see where you are at.
The hydros are pretty reliable, no sence fixing what isn't broke just yet.
a plugged hole in the top of the valve renders that valve inoperable.
Had a feller ask me for help, he had soldered the hole shut because it was leaking oil,--- he meant well,
a set of valves and it was good again ( they both leaked)
no moan/groan and it lives to work another day.
