Fuel shut off replacement on 1811
Hello
I have fuel leaking from the petcock gasket at the bottom of the fuel tank, on my 1811. any clue on how to tighten that? the "nut" on the inside of the tank appears to be round. If tightening it doesn't work I will replace it, but either way I have to be able to loosen/tighten the nut, which is a LONG way from the gas cap hole Thanks

What you are describing is a rubber bushing. Remove the tank, pull the fuel shut off out of the bushing, pull the old bushing out put a little grease on the new bushing and push it into the hole in the tank. Clean or replace the fuel shut off, put a little grease on it and push it into the bushing. 2 of the pics are from a 2284 tank but it's the same on your tractor.

Got ya. thanks a lot. Sounds easier than using santa's magic dust to make myself small enough to get in the tank!

You will probably find it easier to just cut the rubber bushing just under the tank to get the shut off out then fish the cut off part out through the filler.

The old valve popped right out. I ordered a new valve and bushing cause the old valve did not shut off the fuel - figured that out in this process. waiting on that, looks like no running 1811 for christmas, but on a christmas miracle note I thought I blew up my sons 129 up this summer, mowing along and boom smoke banging... pushed it to the barn. today I figured I should try to start that. started and ran perfect, guessing the points?? as I have seen some ugly things from them being out of wack
Thanks again

Does or did that 129 have balance gears in it?? You said it banged. Did it blow a bunch of crap out the exhaust? I can see the back firing, but wondering about the banging afterwards. How was it running when you started it now?

All I remember on the 129 was it got really bad sounding and was blowing out a lot of smoke and I shut it down. turning it over after that it sounded odd and was not firing. It might have been more of a backfire than actual banging. I don't know about the gears you mentioned. When I ran it the other day it ran normal. I pulled a trailer around cleaning up some tree trimmings and it seemed fine, started a few times, plenty of power. I have owned that one for 5 years or so. The P.O. put a piston in it, but I don't think it was really rebuilt, cause he said it was only $150 to do it.

It may run fine to the ear, but I'm sure the motor is hurt. When you load it, you'll find out. They don't go bang and smoke without damage.

Very true Jon! Something's not right. If it were mine I'd quit trying to run it until I pulled it apart.

Thanks for the optimism. Just bustin. It is next on the list. I have to say tho I have a 1250 that would sound like it was going to explode when it got hot. It would sputter after I shut it off and sound so bad I thought about diving in the ditch for cover. On a tip I changed the points and it has been running well and mowing the camp lawn for a few years now. Hey I can dream right?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
