Default 1450 moves at idle

Recently acquired cub cadet 1450 hydrostatic will only move forward or reverse at low idol once you up to the RPMs it gets a vibration will not move forward or reverse and sounds like a bad powersteering pump on a car

Let's start with the basics. Did you check the fluid level in the transmission? There is a plug on the rear of the tractor. Take it out, there should be fluid up to the hole.

Rudy welcome to OCC. First place I would start would be changing the hydro oil and replace the hydraulic filter. It sounds like your filter is plugged up to me. What part of NY are you from. 1/2 hr south of Syracuse here.

I would start with a fluid/filter change, these things do all kinds of crazy things when the filter is plugged. The whining sound you hear suggests that the rearend is low on fluid and sucking air so dont be surprised to find a few leaks once the fluid is full.

yep it is "cavating" (not getting oil to the pump) Do as others said!!
As old as it is, prolly better to take off the rear cover and clean all the nasties
out of there and replace with new fluid and filter.
Welcome to OCC!.

Along with the fluid and filter ,check the driveshaft could have sheared a roll pin . That with could explain why it will move at idle but not once you put some strain on it.

More than likely the problem, but it is good to change the fluid as it is unknown to you when it was done last.

Make sure you get the correct type of filter. Some crossed numbers are not correct. Best bet is a Wix 1410, or Napa 51410.

You can substitute the oil with most any tractor hydraulic/transmission oil. TSC, Rural King, Farm and Fleet, Napa and O'Reilly's carry a version of it. It is best if it says it can be substituted for IH Hy-Tran.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
