Default Christmas Came Early: A No. 1 Yard Cart

Stopped by an auction last Saturday where a "IH Yard Cart" was listed on the sale bill. We couldn't stay for the auction because we had an IHC Chapter #1 Christmas dinner to attend in another town. But we left a bid with the auctioneer and left.

On our way back home, we stopped off at the auction. They were just wrapping up and the auctioneer told me I had won the bid -- for less than a Ben Franklin!! I was a happy boy!

No rust through, light surface rust, lever handle and tilt works fine, and original IH decal and tires. Christmas came early!

That would be quite handy to have.
Looks to be in really good condition for it's age.
Must have been in a barn most of the time.

When you paint it, keep the original decals. Just smear vasoline over them and then paint. Wipe vasoline off and there ya go.

Where is the decal?

There's one halfway up the connecting arm or beam (2nd pic).

Nice find on the cart! You did very well getting it bought for under a Franklin, too! Prolly worth 3 x's that. I'd keep it original as far as the paint. Only original once.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
