Default Model 2185 Hour Meter Mositure
Hi All,

I just picked up a 1997 2185 and the hour meter works but has condensation inside the bezel. I can heat it up with a hair dryer but it just re-condenses when it cools. It looks like it is mounted with two screws in a recess on the front side of the dash behind the panel decal. Does anyone know if the panel decal is glued on? I did not want to start prying the decal off and breaking it due to its age. Another thought I had was to drill a small drain hole in the rear of the meter case and heat up the the hour meter and allow the moisture to escape then put a dab of silicone over the hole. Anyone done this of have any suggestions? Here are some pics of the parts I grabbed on the internet.

It's a sticker.
I got a new one for my 2185 about 5 years ago from cub cadet.
I've had several 2000 series and never had one with a working hour meter.

Thanks. Being a sticker that’s been on for 25 years, I’ll pick up a new one if I decide to remove it. I still may try drilling a small vent hole and heating the meter to evaporate and vent the trapped moisture.

Sounds like you have a good plan. Not much to lose if it doesn't fix
it.

I would expect that you have a broken seal on the face or somewhere. Same as what happens with a taillight when the seal breaks and they start to get condensation and water inside. You can drill your hole, but it will likely keep getting moisture inside if there's a broken seal.

The moisture will eventually kill the meter internally. If you are careful you can peel the sticker and reapply. I've done a couple hour meter replacements this way on the 2k Series.

Buy some contact , take a photo of sticker , then print your own onto the contact (adhesive vinyl)

I pulled the hour meter out this morning and was able to remove the decal in one piece. Does anybody know if the bezel can be pried off? If I can get that off I can dry out the guts and silicone the bezel back on? Here's a pic of the meter. Thanks.
