Default New Member with Question on 1440

Hi guys!

I just purchased a 1440 (3rd owner) with 800hrs. and a 42" mower deck in good condition last week. Compared to my Husky, this is a monster of a machine and after researching all the brands it came down to CC and then finally a cyclops (reading/following this site over 3 months). I'm working on the rust and electrical connections, then a complete tune-up) I'll post a pic when complete.

My question...the only issue is the belt from the PTO to the deck wobbles 5-6 inches from the front of the tractor to the main pulley. Is that normal and if not, how do I fix? Finally, when I shut off the PTO (when connected to the deck), it squeals for 5-7 seconds. Is that normal and if not, how do I fix?

Much thanks and I've already learned so much from you guys!

Check all the pulleys, spindles, and the belts to see if you have a bent pulley or a bearing going bad. You may need to take a look at the air gap on the PTO it acts as a brake when you shut the deck off also idle it down before you turn the deck off. If you have some pics of the mule drive and the deck it may show something that you missed. 1440 is a cool tractor, enjoy.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
