Default 2086 with a misfire

Hi all, I'm having an issue with my 2086. It has an intermittent misfire under load. I first noticed it last winter while snow blowing. It would run fine but sometimes when heavy into a snow bank it would start to misfire and have no power. it wouldn't do it every time. come summer with the mower deck on it would start doing it about 3/4 of the way through mowing(1/2 acre) if I shut the pto off it would clear up and run fine again. Turn pto on again and it would be a crap shoot if it would run strong or misfire. plugs look good, has hot spark, checked connections. Looking for some direction. Started thinking maybe coils getting hot but not sure and not a lot of experience with these engines.
Thanks for any advice.

The 2086 had a Kawasaki FD620D‐AS13 engine in it. Looks like a Magneto style of ignition system. I can't connect the dots between a heavy amperage draw (from PTO) and the Ignition System.

The engine uses a 6 wire V/R. 2 input wires, 2 output wires, a signal wire, and a ground. Maybe there is an issue with this. But, I am NOT a Kawasaki expert.

My 3205 that has the same engine as the 2086 had an issue with the igniter (ignition control box). It would run fine but when the engine ran at normal operating temperature for 30 minutes it would start to misfire. I ended up replacing the igniter and my problems went away. The FD620 was used in a lot of machines so there are lots of people selling this part.

Cub Cadet sells this part with a little mark up!

Has your machine had the cam gear replacement yet? This has nothing to do with your issue but something to be aware of.

Thank you both for the input. I'll check into the ignitor. other than this issue I love the tractor. I won't get rid of my 1711 but the hydraulic steer on the 2086 is awesome especially when the snowblower is on.

Thanks Riatz for the thread and Oak for the the input on the fix. I cut four acres with my 2086 pulling a swisher. It started with the same symptoms last cut. I just ordered the igniter. Thanks again.

PS Oak I changed the camshaft last summer . I had to replace the water pump and did it at that time.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
