can anybody help me . I baught my 1999 3186 new in the spring of 2000 . Never had any major problems , a flat tire here and there , one bearing but other then that its been great! So fast farward to a couple weeks ago I was goin out to spray and I started it and when I let the break out the engine shut off ? it took me a few times of starting it and it dying to figure out its probley the break safety switch . so I got help and I held the safety switch while they tried to start it and sure enough as soon as I left the safety switch button halfway out it died, so I ordered a new one and so I could get my spraying done I taped the button in so it would stay running and it did. so I got my new safety switch put it In and it did the same damn thing??? so I talked to my dealer and they said well then its got to be the seat safety switch , I said I aint got one , the mechanic said what do you mean you aint got one? I said I don't!! he said all mowers have them I said well mine don't!! then he looked at a schematic and said well then its got to be your mower switch must be bad , so I replaced it and that didn't work! then he said its got to be the relay , so I replaced it and still nothing!!! so I just keep replacing parts and it still don't work ! anybody else have that problem and if so what did you do ? or does anybody got any other advice? thanks for any help.

3186 schematic
If you attach the schematic, someone here will probably look it over and offer a few possibilities.
Sounds like your brake switch works, but your run/ignition or kill circuit is broken somewhere. Tracing it out with a multimeter may be necesssary. I assume you're here because you want help repairing it yourself. If you don't have a meter, buy one or wait for Harbor Freight to offer a free coupon.

First things first. Are you familiar with using a meter and reading wire diagrams??
Fixing this will require experience with both or some time and patience teaching you.

All 3000 series machines have the seat safety switch. If yours doesn't then it has been jumped out.
The brake switch is wired in parallel with the seat switch. If your not in the seat then the brake has to be pressed in or if the brake is not pressed in then you must be sitting in the seat. If the brake switch was bad it wouldn't have started. If the pto is on the engine will shut down if you get off of the seat regardless if you have the brake on. You have a failed seat switch or the jumper fell out that someone put in when they bypassed it. It is located in the plastic seat base not the seat. Look here in the parts diagram. https://www.cubcadet.com/en_US/conte...0fac8f500c26/y Pull the seat base off and look down the hole for a Red/Red-Black wire plug. That is the seat safety switch. Here is the service manual for the 3000 series. The wiring schematics are near the back. https://www.mymowerparts.com/pdf/Cub...epair-Manuals/ I can also email you another schematic if this one doesn't work for you. Just PM me your email. Good luck and please report back on how your repair goes.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
