Engine backfires on shutdown
I have a Cub Cadet zrt 42inch deck mower. bought in 2010. Runs fine except when it is shut down the engine backfires one time. Engine is a Kohler SV470-SV620. Tried shutting down at different engine speeds, no change. Carbon Buildup in engine?

Shut down solenoid my be bad. One thing that you may try is to pull the choke as you turn the key off.

Once you park, try letting it idle for a whole minute before shutting it off. Letting my 1864 cool off helped it.

Slow engine down and shut off at half throttle is the correct procedure according to the Kohler book

I'm with Shrewcub on this! Bring down to idle and cool off a minute before shutdown.

Shut off fuel supply and let the carb burn out any remaining fuel. My 2008 zero turn did the same, but I had a flame thrower on startup. I could feel the heat on my left arm and the flame was at least 4 feet out with the plastic fuel tan right above it.....Oh, what a ride! It had a hole in the carb bowl and the entire carb needed a rebuild. So, how does the carb hole get a hole in it, damned if I know, but I suspect sloppy work and a wild screwdriver from the shop when I took it in last. My questions to the owner were like a train with no wheels, ......soon get nowhere!
Sounds like you need a carb rebuild... Cub Cadet 123

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
