Default 784 Hydraulic Expansion

Well, I am not sure how to start off - but we'll just dive right in. Using the parts of a JD 400 (sorry about the bad word) I am going to expand my 784 to have 3 hydraulic circuits. I also picked up an extra lever for the control - this way I can add a NOS lever to the dash.

I had to pick up some new fittings, as the valve bank from the 400 has some different sized ports. They came in today, and I found it a good time to start this thread. I also have to get a new pressure line from the pump to the valve. I am taking suggestions on where to get a new line - the new line will need to be custom made, by me. I brushed the gunk off of the old one, taped off all the ports, and shot it with the first can of spray paint tonight. I would normally go for a little higher quality paint job, but the casting is rough and it will be hidden under a dash and fuel tank.

Another point of excitement for me is that the new valve bank has the capability, on one valve, to float. Now, I understand that on most quietline models and the older 3-digit tractors, that there is a float built in between the lift cylinder and rockshaft. However, for those of you who know the 82 series, you know that the sleeve hitch rockshaft connects directly to the lift cylinder. In short, the lift cylinder provides up and down pressure through the sleeve hitch. This is where the float capability comes in handy. It gives me the option of using down pressure or floating instantly. You can see the valve that floats - signified by the longer pot on the bottom.

I am sure some of you are curious what I would use 3 ports for. In short, I have some plans for a hydraulic dump trailer, a mid-mount grader blade with hydraulic control, and perhaps adding a hydraulic angle package to my 42" back blade. My dad always told me "if it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing."

I have attached a few pictures of the valve bank as well as the "lucky tractor." Please feel free to give me feedback, suggestions, or concerns. I look forward to the project and hope that you guys will enjoy it also.

Default The Work Continues

Since my tractor is my working unit and is currently on snow duty, I need to gather all of the materials and complete the project in one fell swoop. Currently, I am trying to determine what would be the best style of tubing to use as I will have to make a new tube that runs from the pump to the valve body. It has crossed my mind to see if I can utilize the old tubing, but I reconsidered. I hate to destroy a perfectly good part. This way, if I ever need to go back to stock, I can easily convert back. So, here's the interactive part:

1. What kind of tubing should I use?
2. What size tubing is this? (I can figure this one out, when I get some time)
3. Where can I find this tubing?
4. What size and style fittings do these use?
5. Any other suggestions/concerns.

**Note: I can determine the size/style of fittings as well as size by taking my tractor apart. If you know it off the top of your head or know where I can find it, I would appreciate it. I know that mose people on here are outgoing, but don't go taking apart your tractor to provide me with a few simple answers.

Thanks in advance,

Nate

I would use 3/8" steel brake line tube with JIC fittings. Tubing available at any Auto Parts Store and the JIC fittings at any Hydraulic Supplier.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
