Welcome to OCC.
Sounds like you have serious issues with your hydro. Hopefully just wear in the linkages, trunion and springs. I have never heard of a Cadet doing a wheelie and breaking the front axle. The only axles I ever heard of breaking were from falling off a trailer or running into something very solid like a tree or curbing. I would go ahead and start a thread under IH Cadets concerning your hydro. Post pictures if you can, we love them! Besides it will help to diagnose problems. Give some details about how the hydro was behaving, was it changing speed on hills or was it doing it on flat ground. Was it weak under load, etc.

Welcome to OCC.
A tiller will always try to push the tractor forward. Keep in mind that a hydro is NOT a cruse control. It WILL go slower up-hill and faster down-hill if you don't adjust the lever. This is my stock answer for trunnion problems. If you have or suspect that you have trunnion problems with your Cub Cadet hydro, start by going here. http://cubfaq.com/hydrolurch.html And then here. http://cubfaq.com/trunionrepair.html More information here. http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/s...ead.php?t=4635 There is a lot of good debate here. http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/s...ead.php?t=5495 After you have fixed your trunnion your forward-reverse lever and foot pedal may be out of wack, so go here. http://cubfaq.com/neutraladjust.html Personally, I see no need to add extra metal pieces to the square hole, unless the ends are worn crooked. I have never had this problem with any that I have fixed. So I simply weld the slots in the corners and then file them back square again. I think someone said one of my links is dead, I don't know for sure, haven't checked them in awhile.

John/Sam
Thank you for the input John. Yep the little cub popped a wheelie I was in the pasture and motor revved 1/2 way I did aggressively move the leaver forward but it was so "responsive " away we went. My wife was loving the discussed look on my face when axel broke afterthought I replaced the original turf tires with R1 style Sam. I am going to look at all linkage I do see hydro leakage from the hydro check valves the 76 I have has manual and the 77 seams to be automatic |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
