Kohler Command engines from other brands
I have a 1980 782 with a series I Kohler 17. Approx 60% of my property is slanted, not flat, so I want to put together a premptive list of drop-in of Kohler Command engines. I have a list of Cub Cadet engines but was hoping to add to that list other brands and models that would also have drop-in engines. Deere, for instance? Anybody know of any specific non-Cadet engines to put on the list? Thanks.

FWIW:
If you are worried about sloped property blowing up the engine, it is not from that. Most KT series 1 die from lack of frequent oil changes and revving a cold engine before the oil is warmed up. They are a splash oil system to the connecting rods. with about #5 oil pressure. The series 2 and magnum engines were much improved with full pressure oiling to the cross drilled crankshaft achieving #80 cold and settle to about #35 hot. They are a bolt in replacement for the series 1, although an old engine flathead design, and not available new. I don't have an answer to the command swap, as I prefer the old opposed twins. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
