Default K341 will not start
I have a Kohler K341 in a Cub Cadet 149, I rebuilt the engine last spring (‘17) and it ran well all summer. It last ran in late October, and in early December I tried starting it to clear snow with no luck. It seems to turn over ok, but I am getting exhaust out the carb. I tried removing the muffler with no change, and removed the valve cover and checked the valve clearance.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What does the bold mean?? Makes no sense.


Engine like that only takes 3 things to run. Fuel, air and fire. Which one isn't it getting?

I fixed it. It was supposed to say ‘exhaust out the carb’.

That was my thought, which is why I pulled the valve cover, and the valve was following the lifter with the appropriate gap when closed.

I guess the next step is to pull the head and check it from above.

Give the timing a check, it is possible that somehow it is very advanced, firing while the intake is open, thus belching out the carb.

My k301 did this at one point.
