If you had a junk 317 or 324 deck you could use the mounts and make it work.

With some fab work it could be done. I ran a 60 in deck from a 5252 that I adapted on my 1872 for about 15 years and it mowed very well. I used the mounts, hangers, jack shaft pulley assy and a modified mule drive from a GT 46 inch deck to make it work. I later ended up getting the hanger assy from a 60 in Haban because the one for the GT deck was not made of heavy enough material and it kept bending due to the weight of the deck. If you have fab skills and a welder etc it can be done. It would be easier to find a 54 inch deck from a Cyclops series or a Haban as they will just bolt on with the exception of the PTO pulley size used with some of the later Cyclops mowers. Here are some pictures of my 60 in deck I adapted. The only reason I stopped using it is I found a 60 inch Haban deck to use on the tractor I rebuilt that is in my avatar.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
