Stuck hydraulic Lever
Hi guys, i have a HD 3165 it was left outside a couple years ago when we had the October snow storm and was covered with snow till April when it finally melted out. It was not our intentions to treat it as it was junk but non the less.
Since then the lever that raises and lowers the deck has been stuck. I tried pretty hard to get it to budge but its locked up tight. I jacked it up and got a look at it from under but you cant really see much. My question is is there a mechanical pivot or is the lever attached right to the valve and any ideas of what i can do to free it up? If anyone has a picture of what it looks like it would be a big help as well. Thanks for any help |

Yes, there is a "pivot" but most likely the spool is froze. Remove the lever and linkage. Lube the valve up good on both ends with PB Blaster or wd40... let it soak for the night, then use a dead blow to work the spool back and forth. Eventually it will free up, reinstall the lever and commence to lubing and working the valve until its free
Probably not the P.C. way to go about it, but its worked for me many a time. If you keep that valve lubed and work it every once in a while youll likely never have this issue again. Best of luck

Thank you bud, one last question do you think i have to pull the body off to get to it or can i just take off the seat maybe? i never had one apart so its new to me. Thank you very much for your time.

Rex, I'm thinking you need to pull the fender pan. Not hard to do at all if you can't get it freed up.
Pull off the rubber foot pads on the floor boards and remove the 3 or 4 screws/bolts on each side. Slide the seat all the way forward and remove the Torx screw on each seat rail going down to the frame. There is one on each side. Then slide it all the way back and remove the other 2 Torx screws. The complete fender pan and floor board can come off as one piece. You will need to remove the fuel cap, lower dash screen and foot pedals also. It's a little tricky but you'll get it off. When it's off you may be able to spray it with some penetrating oil and lightly tap it with a hammer to free it. Here is what it will look like when you get the pan off. See if it has signs of any leaks also while your there. DSCN0176.jpg
