48" GT Deck Adjustments
2nd year with the 1641. Has become our "go to" tractor for many (most) of our chores. Grandsons love it, 'specially the hydro!
Our lawns are looking great, mowed more than need be. Grandsons love driving their cub! Decided to mow the lawns a bit higher, we were mowing low max. Lowered the decks wheels one notch and going to try that. Should the deck run level? We have had (still have) other mowers, decks, that are slightly lower in the front. Seems, per the 317190's manual, ride on the decks wheels. Should the deck rear wheels raise the back of the deck slightly? Perhaps one notch 'bout 1/2"?

I have the height set on my 48"/54" decks set by the down stop screw on the back of the tractor. When I roll on hard pavement with the deck on the stop, the front wheels kiss the pavement and the back wheels are maybe a 1/2" off the pavement.
Typically, the front wheels will be all the way up on the adjustment and the backs wheels, all the way down. The front wheel casters, pins, bushings and extension arms tend to droop through wear of same. If you have a deck with no or little wear on those components, your "look" may be different. |

For what ever it's worth you may need to adjust the front hangers circled in red in this pic. I run my 46GT so that the wheels just barely touch the ground. I have the deck stop set to support the deck. The wheels on these decks just have bronze bushings in them so if you run the wheels on the ground you'll kill the bushings. Just my opinion, your results may vary.

Thanks Sam and Mike!
Going to adjust now, grass is damp, mow (test) later! Thanks again! I knew I asked in the right place! UPDATE Did set the front deck wheels one [1] notch higher than the rear deck wheels. Deck now tilts slightly towards the front. Then adjusted the height adjust on the Cub's rear end, slightly higher. Deck wheels barely touch the lawn grasses. Grass lookin' great. Guess I have too much time on my hands, Finding this Cub my toy, neighbors peek-a-boo wondering, "My tractor is new, just bought it from Home Cheapo. How does his old mower do that?" I was thinking of removing the two outer mower blades (?). "Honest Hon, I'll clean the barn as soon as I'm done mowing 'your' lawns."

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
