Default Sgt 2084

The following (in quotes) is an ad. Based on the information given -- WHAT'S IT WORTH?

"Cub Cadet 2084 SGT for sale:.......- 2084 cub cadet. Low hours CH18 Kohler command engine. New OEM ignition coils, New OEM carburetor, New OEM mechanical fuel pump upgrade, new breather cover and gasket, new battery, new starter, new PTO belt. Tractor comes with oil pressure gauge and tiny tach. Tractor runs great and has been completely serviced. Nice 50" mower with new deck wheels with gator blades. All the plastic is in good shape. Everything works as it should."

Also, would attachments (deck and snowblower) from a 1882 easily interchangeable?

Thanks

First the 2084 was only made for one year. This 2084 has been repowered as the 2084 came with a ch20s engine. It also has been modified with the addition of gauges. The mower deck if it is a 50 inch deck will not be wide enough to cut wider than the rear wheels. If I were to check this one out I would first check to see if the head gaskets are not leaking, the rear bolts are all there and are tight. This may be a real gem or not. With all the replacement items noted it may be someone putting lipstick on a pig. As to price I don't know what it may be worth without a thorough face to machine inspection. Also remember it is no longer a true 2084.

Pictures are needed on this one. There are to many things that could go wrong. The mechanical fuel pump, to me, sounds like he may have put a magnum in.

The ad has only a single pic - no detail style pics -- I'll contact the seller via the ad to see if he'll send me more.

I see it has a cast iron tranny, was it upgraded with the original parts from the aluminum trans that was in the 2084?
Tires in the rear look shorter.

Wrong engine, wrong rearend and IH deck lead me to believe this tractor was made from spare parts. I'm not saying it's a bad tractor but it's probably not worth the same as one in original condition. What's the asking price?

I think I've see enough QUESTIONS about the tractor to steer clear. The seller is asking......................wait for it.........................$2700.00

Thanks guys. I'm sure I'll be inquiring again as I seek a replacement for my 1882 (I have a good deck and OK snowblower - but my tractor is toast.

What's wrong with your tractor?

LONG STORY: I seized the engine - took the cover off to replace the leaking seal (on the clutch side). I apparently did something to the oil pump, or got RTV in the wrong spot(s) I ran it maybe 3 minutes tops - YES WITH OIL IN IT -- I know what you're thinking (to move it enough to wash it off before reinstalling the pto clutch). Once I put the clutch back on I thought I should make sure it was working before putting all the shields etc on.
Started it .... ran about 3 seconds - stalled
Started it again .... ran about 1.5 seconds - stalled
Both times the "low oil light" came on.
Tried to start it a 3rd time - That's when it locked up. And it is locked up TIGHT!

On top of that, there is a serious leak in the rear end (minor leak until I pressure washed it).

Did I Mention -- I AM NOT A MECHANIC -- LOL!

I monkeyed with it some this morning and pretty much learned the crank case would have to be split to diagnose further (that's when I put it back together and decided to move on).

If I find tractor compatible with my mower deck and blower I'll keep this for parts. I'm hoping to find something before the snow flies.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
